City of Pittsburg, Bay Point and PG&E Collaborate to Install LED Lights

by ECT

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E), the City of Pittsburg and the unincorporated community of Bay Point announced a collaborative effort today to convert approximately 3,500 non-decorative PG&E-owned streetlights to energy efficient and longer lasting Light Emitting Diode (LED) fixtures. PG&E began installations in Pittsburg March 30th and will continue to work throughout the area in the coming weeks.

Join Pittsburg and PG&E to get a first-hand look at the replacement and lighting of the LED fixtures on Thursday, April 2 at 11:30 a.m at the Intersection of Campbell Drive and Carroll Court, Pittsburg.

LED streetlights use 50 to 75 percent less energy than traditional bulbs, significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and require less maintenance. New LED streetlights, which provide a more natural-looking light, can last up to four times longer than traditional bulbs. The optical technology in LED lights creates more evenly distributed light, resulting in greater visibility for pedestrians and drivers alike.

The City of Pittsburg completed the conversion of its City-owned streetlights in 2012. The conversion of the PG&E-owned street lights will complete the process and all of Pittsburg’s streetlights will be LED providing energy savings and uniformed lighting in all of our neighborhoods.

According to PG&E, each installation takes approximately 10 minutes per lamp fixture with all work being done in public. Customers will be notified of replacement activity occurring in their neighborhood prior to PG&E’s arrival. PG&E expects no service disruption as a result of this work. I would be happy if they would fix the light poles that have been “out” for the last year.

Watch this folks or you could end up like Antioch did. Sweet deal with Honeywell brought us the worst street lighting in over 50 years. The streets of Antioch are dangerous at night.
