City of Oakley Receives Grant for a Community Dog Park

by ECT

The City of Oakley announced Monday that they have been awarded a $413,000 grant for a Community Dog Park in the area of Nunn‐Wilson Family Park.

The grant was awarded after a recommendation from the California Department of Parks and Recreation, the National Park Service, under the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) competitive grant program.

The proposed Oakley Community Dog Park at Nunn‐Wilson Family Park (corner of Laurel Rd. and Brown Rd.) will encompass approximately 2.5 acres of the existing park site and include a parking lot, restroom, picnic area, fenced areas for both small and large dogs, tables, benches, turf, dog water play area, drinking fountains, play and agility equipment, and dog waste stations.

Vice Mayor Sue Higgins said, “This is great news. These improvements will significantly benefit the community, not only for dogs and their owners, but dog parks promote and provide multi‐ generational park activity for all ages.”

Final project design will start this month followed up by project construction document bidding in the spring. The design will be based on the conceptual design that was developed and approved last year.

Billilee Saengchalern, Associate Engineer, will head up the design and construction project. Ms.
Saengchalern stated, “The City will also most likely be looking for a responsible volunteer group to assist with overseeing (self‐policing) the park and helping with maintenance.”

This project when completed will be the first designated off‐leash dog park in the City of
Oakley.

amazing how all this money is floating around yet our elected politicians can’t find any for our fire district. Oh well, maybe this park is more important.
