City of Oakley Names New Police Chief

by ECT

The City of Oakley has a new police chief and its a familiar face as it was confirmed Saturday that Clayton Police Chief Chris Thorsen will be returning to the City of Oakley.

Chief Thorsen leaves Clayton after three years to return to the City of Oakley after the city council agreed this spring to break its contract with the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office to form its own police department.

The City of Oakley announced Monday it extended a preliminary offer of employment and steps still need to be taken before its official.  The city posted this message on Facebook today.

After much review, the City has extended a preliminary offer of employment to Chris Thorsen to head Oakley’s municipal police department. Thorsen previously served Oakley in the capacity of Police Chief from 2005 to 2010 as one of his assignments with the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office, where he accomplished the rank of Captain. Currently, he is serving as the Chief of Police in Clayton.

Thorsen will take over a department which they hope to hire more officers and has been named one of the top 50 Safest Cities in California over the last two years.
