by ECT

At 10:55, a rollover vehicle accident crash on Highway 4 just west of G Street in Antioch killed one man and injured a female on Friday.

By 11:02, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief and an off-duty AMR employee were on scene with bystanders providing care until additional units arrived. Both patients were transported to local hospitals.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Derrick Joseph, a 37 year old Antioch, was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe on eastbound Highway 4, east of Lone Tree Way at an unknown speed when for yet to be determined reasons he lost control of the SUV. The Tahoe rolled over and landed on its wheels.

Unfortunately the Joseph was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle. He was transported to Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The right front passenger in the Tahoe, a 39 year old Antioch woman, sustained minor injuries as a result of this collision and was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. It has been determined she too was not wearing her seat belt at the time of this collision.

CHP also stated it had not yet been determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

This traffic collision is still pending further investigation per CHp and encouraging witnesses with any information of this collision or the events leading up to it are asked to contact CHP at (925) 646.4980.
