On Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 7:17 pm, Golden Gate Communication Center (GGCC) advised Contra Costa CHP units that the Antioch Police Department was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle, (1999 Acura Integra, CA #4GDZ589), along w/b SR-4 at Bailey Road.

At 7:19 pm Antioch Police Department requested CHP to take over the pursuit; however, there were no units in immediate position. At 7:21 pm, Antioch Police Department terminated their involvement at San Marco Boulevard due to logistics and jurisdictional issues.

At 7:23 pm, CHP unit 19-241B (Officer C. Vonhofen, #17219) staged along Southbound SR-242, south of SR-4 and observed the Integra pass his location. While waiting for additional units and CHP helicopter H-32 to arrive, 19-241B maintained visual contact and did not attempt to stop the vehicle. As the Integra transitioned onto Southbound I-680, 19-D10 (Officer F. Meranda, #19526) moved into the secondary position and trailed 19-241B at 7:26 pm. Since H-32 had a short ETA, the officers waited to initiate a stop and continued to follow the vehicle from a distance as it traveled at speeds of 80-90 mph. 19-S7 (Sgt. G. Xepoleas, #12000), monitored the radio traffic and responded to the incident after clearing a major injury collision on Northbound I-680 at Treat Boulevard.

Once the Integra transitioned onto Westbound SR-24, the driver suddenly accelerated and reached speeds of 105-110 mph in light traffic. Both CHP units also accelerated in an attempt to position themselves to initiate a felony stop. As the Integra continued Westbound on SR-24, the driver suddenly braked, swerved right and took the Central Lafayette exit.

Upon exiting, units 19-241B and 19-D10 activated their lights & siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. However, the driver failed to yield, turned south onto 1st Street and proceeded to run red lights at the SR-24 ramp intersection and prior to turning left onto Mt. Diablo Blvd. As the Integra continued Eastbound on Mt. Diablo Boulevard at 45-50 mph, the driver swerved to the right in an attempt to pass another vehicle, hit the concrete curb, lost control, spun out and came to a stop in the Westbound lanes just west of Stuart Street at 7:30 pm.

Two black male adults immediately exited the vehicle and fled on foot in a southerly direction. Although 19-241B gave chase to them, he ultimately lost sight of both subjects as they ran through a commercial complex and then into a residential neighborhood.

Meanwhile, as D-10 cleared the Integra, he located a black female adult in the rear seat and immediately detained her. 19-S7 arrived at the termination point at 7:34 pm, and although a perimeter was established and assistance was provided by Contra Costa SO K-9 and H-32, the subjects were not located or identified. The female passenger was cooperative, positively identified, interviewed and subsequently released. Lafayette Police Department responded to handle the collision (Case #14-14524). 19-241B recovered the stolen Integra and will complete a CHP 216/Incident Report.

This investigation is active.

Crap, that was like an entire report. Articles are easier for the public if you just talk in plain English.
