According to the California Highway Patrol, just after 1:00 am, a vehicle pursuit that began in Oakland traveled more than an hour to East Contra Costa County where the driver eventually gave up to authorities near the Town of Discovery Bay.
CHP said that CHP Helicopter H-32 responded to assist the CHP – Oakland with a vehicle pursuit traveling on Hwy 24 eastbound.
H-32 arrived overhead as the suspect vehicle transitioned onto I-680 northbound where CHP – Contra Costa took over the pursuit. H-32 illuminated the suspect vehicle with the helicopters “night sun” and called the pursuit thus allowing ground officers to follow at a safer distance.
The pursuit continued onto Hwy 4 and into San Joaquin County where the suspect was as taken into custody.
According to Craig Cannon (a fellow news guy who followed the chase), this pursuit started in Oakland and went for over an hour through East Contra Costa out to Stockton. The guy took Hwy 4 East, stopped his car on the Old River Bridge, stepped out and gave up. It went everywhere. Delta Rd/Lone Tree/ Brentwood/680/24/4.
