On 3:51 this early morning, a CHP-Contra Costa Officer attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on a grey Ford Fusion for a violation of excessive speed. The Ford accelerated away to approximately 100 MPH as it headed westbound on Highway 4.
The officer pursued the Ford as it continued to flee and exited at Laurel Road. The Ford made a left and headed northbound on Empire Avenue, and immediate turned right onto eastbound Delta De Anza Regional Trail, ramming through a series of gates. The Ford became stuck at a gate leading back onto Laurel Road.
The driver of the Ford, later identified as Isaiah L. Davis, 19, fled on foot southbound across Laurel Road, jumping a fence into a residential neighborhood. The CHP Officer gave chase on foot.
A perimeter was established by other CHP – Contra Costa units, Oakley Police Department, Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department, and later Golden Gate Division Helicopter “H-30”. Antioch Police Department also provided a K-9 unit.
The suspect gained entry into a residence on Kali Court in Oakley, where he was confronted by the homeowner. A physical altercation ensued, in which Davis fled from the residence, headed westbound toward Laurel Road, where he was taken into custody by Contra Costa Sheriff’s Deputies.
This incident is pending further investigation.
