CHP: Pregnant Bay Point Woman Dies in Fatal Collision on Highway 4 in Concord

by ECT

A pregnant Oakley woman died Tuesday night of injuries suffered in a two-car crash that happened on Highway 4 at Port Chicago Highway in Concord at 5:40 pm.

Here is the release by CHP:

On Tuesday, at about 5:40pm, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a two vehicle traffic collision on HWY-4 westbound at Port Chicago HWY. Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, it was determined that a Chevrolet Tahoe collided with a Honda Pilot and then the Tahoe careened into the center median and center guard rail and subsequently overturned. The female driver of the Tahoe sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital. Her passenger also suffered injuries (non-life threatening) and was also transported to the hospital. Both the driver and passenger of the Tahoe were not wearing seatbelts.

In the initial investigation and independent witness statements, it appears that the Tahoe was driving at a high rate of speed on westbound HWY-4 and for unknown reasons made an unsafe turning movement and collided with the blue Honda Pilot. The female driver (20yrs old and from Bay Point) then veered the Tahoe into the center median and then into the center metal guard rail. The Tahoe then subsequently overturned and rolled approximately two times, fully ejecting the driver and partially ejecting the male passenger (29yrs old from Oakley), who were both not wearing their seatbelts. The blue Honda Pilot sustained minor damage and the female driver (37 yrs old from Hercules) was not injured.

The female driver of the Tahoe was transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for major life threatening injuries. Her male passenger was also transported John Muir in Walnut Creek with major injuries but non-life-threatening. At about 8:55pm, the female driver succumb to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. She was also pregnant.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision but it is still under investigation and if anyone witnessed it or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980. Thank you.

Speed kills! It’s amazing how many people drive so fast and think it’s ok or cool when it’s jist stupid and endangering everyone else. We need systems on our highways to automatically ticket speeders. When this happens, accidents especially fatal ones will drop dramatically

Boy, what a crappy way to treat your unborn child. What a dumb arse. Glad she didn’t kill the person she hit.

Almost everyday on HWY 4 I am witness to unsafe lane changes. I believe the home video game age has caused driving unsafe to our highways in way more abundance.
