CHP: Officer Shot at During Traffic Stop on I-580

At 6:47pm, California Highway Patrol officers were on a traffic stop, on I-580 eastbound, west of Central Ave., when a white SUV passed by and started firing shots.

The officer was not hit.

A Ford sedan was struck by one of the bullets, but no injuries have been reported. All lanes of I-580 eastbound are closed while officers process the scene.

At this time CHP does not believe the officer was targeted.
