Free Safe Driving Classes for Seniors

California’s senior population is proving to be one of the fastest growing driving-age demographics in the state. It is estimated that there will be over six million residents age 65 and older in California by the year 2020. Knowing that much of this community still relies on driving as their primary means of transportation, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is sponsoring several trainings of the Age Well Drive Smart program in our district.

The “Age Well Drive Smart” class is a two hour program designed to help Contra Costa County’s senior drivers. Drivers of all age groups are welcome to attend and refresh their knowledge of the Rules of the Road. Participants will learn how to adjust their driving due to age-related physical changes. Included in the discussion will be the importance of continuing driving, factors to consider in extending your driving years, and when it may be time to limit or stop driving. The goal of these classes is to reduce motor vehicle collisions and pedestrian deaths and injuries experienced by older Californians, while increasing seniors’ awareness of alternate transportation options when driving is no longer an option. There is no need to RSVP to participate in this free class sponsored by the CHP and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The following “Age Well Drive Smart” classes will be offered in May:
