CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations Unit Makes Three Rescues in 24 hours

by ECT

Over the weekend, the California Highway Patrol made three rescues involving its Air Operations which included a rescue at Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve.  The hikers were located stranded on a ledge.

According to CHP, the two women were okay. They have posted a video of the rescue on their Facebook Page.

Here is the information from CHP:

On the morning of March 28, 2015, CHP Helicopter H-32 responded to Davenport to assist CAL FIRE with a cliff rescue. A male climber had become entangled in his climbing gear, and had been hanging upside down on the cliff face for over an hour. While the pilot held H-32 steady in 30 knot offshore gusts, the flight officer lowered the rescue collar to the climber. The rescue climber from CAL FIRE was able to cut all of the gear and free the climber, who was then subsequently airlifted to a nearby location. Due to the climber’s condition, he was transported by H-32 to a nearby trauma center.

On March 29, 2015 at approximately 10:05 AM, H-32 responded to assist the Solano County Fire Department with the rescue of an injured hiker near Monticello Dam. H-32 was able to quickly locate the injured woman, a 47 year old female hiker. Due to the rugged and steep terrain, H-32 was only able to land one skid onto the ground, at which point the CHP Flight Officer/Paramedic dismounted and hiked up to the female. After preparing her for rescue, H-32 was able to air-lift her via the helicopter’s hoist to a nearby command post, where she was transferred to a Vacaville Fire Department ground ambulance for transport to a nearby trauma center.

Later that evening, at approximately 6:45 PM, CHP received reports of missing hikers in the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve area. The East Bay Regional Park District helicopter (Eagle 7) was already overhead searching for the missing hikers when they located them stranded on a ledge. H-32 was called in to perform a hoist rescue of the stranded hikers. After arriving on scene, the hikers were air-lifted to the nearby command post.
