CHP Contra Costa: Traffic Stop Nets Subject Failing to Register as Sex Registrant

by ECT

On December 23, a CHP – Contra Costa Officer stopped for a disabled vehicle that was so grossly overloaded with cardboard that the trailer the truck was pulling was literally bursting at its metal seams. The load had shifted so far to the right that the wheel housing of the trailer was crushing onto the right rear tire. The immense friction caused the tire to go flat.

The driver admittedly knew he was overloaded, indicating he saw smoke billowing off the tire due to all the weight. The shear weight of the trailer bent the rear bumper of the pickup truck towing it.

A CHP commercial enforcement officer arrived on scene and determined not only was the vehicle too heavy, the load was too high and too wide. Had our officers not arrived to initially assist the driver of this disabled vehicle, he had planned on changing the tire, offloading some of the cardboard, and driving off. That didn’t happen.

When asked for his driver license, he indicated he did not have one. The driver than provided a fake name to our officer.

Once the driver’s true identity was finally verified it was discovered the driver had a $35,000 warrant for failing to comply and register as a sex registrant. The driver was subsequently arrested for the warrant and providing false information to a law enforcement officer. The vehicle was inventoried prior to being towed away.

Fake Gun CHPDuring the inventory a fake gun was discover under the driver’s seat.
