Charles Hamlin

Lifelong Brentwood area resident Charlie Hamlin passed away peacefully on January 29, 2014. His two sons, Greg and Chuck, were by his side.

Charlie was born in Oklahoma. At the age of six months his family immigrated to California. A real life “Grapes of Wrath”. He lived in Brentwood, Antioch, and Oakley and attended Brentwood schools. Charlie joined the Army and was a Korean War veteran. Upon returning home from the Army he worked at Fireboard until his retirement. He was proud to have served as a volunteer fireman on the Oakley Fire Department for 30 years. So much so that he wore his “Oakley Fire Department” hat until the day he passed. He loved that hat.

He was preceded in death by Beverly, his wife of 44 years, his father, Oscar, his mother, Pearl, and his brother, Gene. He is survived by his sons, Greg and Chuck, daughters in law, Tricia and Michelle, grandchildren, Jonathan, Mary, Christopher, Sean, and Meredith, his great-granddaughters Hailey and Rebecca, his sisters, Betty and Beatrice, and his mother in law, Evelyn.

Charlie loved traveling, camping, fishing, and hunting. He and Bev would travel with friends to Mexico and various other locations. In the 1960s and early 1970s their family vacation was camping at Kennedy Meadows every August. Those who knew Charlie knew he had a very “colorful” way of speaking. After the grandchildren and great-granddaughters were born he would light up when they were with him. He loved being with friends and family. He and Bev hosted many celebrations in the back yard of their O’Hara Avenue home in Oakley. Everybody loved Charlie!

Charlie will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.

A graveside service was  held at Union Cemetery, Highway 4, Brentwood, CA on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at noon.
