Challenger Baseball Division Meets Batman the Wheelchair Dog

by ECT

East County Little Leagues Challenger Division baseball players had a special treat yesterday as they had the chance to meet Batman, the wheelchair dog. Batman is a special needs dog who was rescued after being hit by a car in streets of Taiwan and had a heck of a recovery.

Batman is a 3-4 year old male formosa dog weighing in at 26 lbs who will require diapers and a wheel chair and his owners made the trip from Fresno for this special meeting with our special needs community. In a touching moment, Batman was reunited with his original foster family with  touching video available on Facebook.

Here are a few photographs from yesterdays Superhero theme day in honor of Batman where Oakley Mayor Kevin Romick also participated by putting on his cape. Kudos to Meghan Bell and the rest of East County Little League for arranging this special treat for the community and Batman “minions” in the area.

General Information

Batman was rescued off the streets of Taiwan when he was hit by a car and left to die. Batman dragged himself across multiple lanes of traffic before he made his way into an alley where he stayed waiting for help. When Batman was first rescued he was taken in by a rescuer that had used him to raise funds. Batman was dumped at a “private shelter” that holds up to 1000 dogs as “paid fosters”. When Yenchi Batman’s second rescuer saw him, she was horrified. Batman was bleeding from his mouth from a split tongue and his back end was severely infected.

Yenchi contacted the original rescuer and asked to take over his rescue. She realized he had not been cared for and needed medical attention asap. Yenchi and a few other rescuers gathered donations and got Batman the medical treatment needed. Batman stayed in a foster home in Taiwan for 8 months before she sent his profile over to us. When she sent us his profile we felt the need to help him out. Thankfully at that same time an application came in from Anjolie with interest in helping out a medical or special needs dog. It was meant to be!

Our rescue made arrangements to get him over to the states and into foster care. Batman arrived and went into foster care with Anjolie and Eray, both of them took amazing care of Batman and gave him all the attention he needed. Batman gained support from the public and even won the “Happiest dog in America” contest! Batman’s journey has been a tough one but in the end everything fell into place. Batman has since been adopted and is now loving his life with Pam & Dale Goldwater. We are very happy to be apart of his journey. Please continue to support our rescue and help us save more dogs like Batman!

It was a wonderful day for us as well. I am so happy we could bring Batman to meet everyone. It made all the work of preparing totally worth it. You’ve got some great kids up there, Meghan Bell. Thank you for coming, Mike Burkholder!!! You rock.
