CALFIRE: Antioch Fire Burns 533 Acres, 100 Percent Contained

A 9:00 am update Thursday by CALFIRE stated that the Antioch fire at Contra Loma Park is now 100 percent contained and burned 533 acres Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters set up a perimeter overnight around the fire and stayed on scene as a precaution.

According to Lisa Martinez, spokesperson for Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, a total of 180 firefighters were on scene between CONFIRE, CALFIRE and East Bay Regional Park District Fire.

Today, a total of six engines will be dedicated to the scene mopping up the incident while patrolling to ensure nothing rekindles explained Martinez.

Contra Costa Fire is providing two engines, EBRPD is providing three engines and CALFIRE is providing a single engine.

On Wednesday, firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the area of Silverado and Foothill in Antioch near Contra Loma Park and immediately requested a full vegetation response and shortly after requested CALFIRE and East Bay Regional Park District to respond.

The fire caused the evacuation of around 100 homes between Grismbsy Drive and Silverado as well as homes on Frederickson Lane.

At 7:18 pm Wednesday, Contra Costa County Fire spokesperson Lisa Martinez said the fire grew to 300 acres and was 70% contained. No homes were lost that they were aware of and no one was injured.

By 8:30 pm Wednesday, it was stated that new figures showed the fire was at 533 acres and 80 percent contained while firefighters were setting up a perimeter for the night.

Air support was also provided by CALFIRE who dropped retardant near Foothill Drive to help prevent any homes from being damaged.

According to authorities, no homes were damaged in the fire and no one was injured.

 

An evacuation center has been established at Mira Vista Hills Park in the same neighborhood where the Red Cross is offering assistance.

Antioch Police Department was on scene to block roads while Contra Loma Park and Antioch Community Park were both evacuated as firefighters were responding to the fire.

Thank you to CalFire, CCFD. the Park Dist.and everyone else involved. This could have been very bad. It was quite a sight to see these huge planes going over head. It took what seemed a long time for them to get here but they sure did a terrific job. Thank you again!
