Byron Rollover Accident May Have Been Caused by Distracted Driving

At 9:54 am Saturday, emergency crews responded to a solo vehicle rollover accident on the Byron Highway in unincorporated Contra Costa County where one person was injured.

Crews arrived on scene and immediately began treatment for a neck and back injury where the victim was flown to John Muir Medical Center for treatment.

According to radio traffic, there was one person ejected but as crews arrived on scene, they found the patient alert and awake. Meanwhile, one of our readers witnessed the incident and stated the vehicle rolled over multiple times.

The incident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, however, the fire crews state the probable cause was the patient was distracted by a dog inside the car.

Engine 59, Engine 54, AMR and CALSTAR responded to the call along with Battalion Chief 5.
