Although there was no fire, the sprinkler was flowing and caused electrical damage, damage to piece of artwork, the wall, and the flooring.

Crews worked the incident by shutting off the water and drained the system and cleaned up using their wet-vac. Brentwood City employees began working to remove the water and repair the damage.

According to Miki Tsubota, Director of Public Works/City Engineer, the city is still assessing the total damage.

“At this point, it is still too early to determine the repair costs associated with the single sprinkler that went off over the weekend in the Community Center,” said Tsubota. “We know that water got on the ceiling tiles, flooring, walls, and some of the art in the halls, but much of the water was removed yesterday.”

Tsubota said they also had brought in fans and dehumidifiers to help dry out the building.

“Some of the audio/visual functions in the building are still not working, but we are still determining the best way to fix these.  It may take some time to determine the full extent of damage and associated repair costs,” added Tsubota.

The cause of the sprinkler activation is being investigated.
