Brentwood: Student Film Festival Entry Deadline Extended to Nov 1

by ECT

Brentwood, CA – The Heritage High School-based Opificer Media Student Film Festival announced its extending its entry deadline to submit to November 1 and the festival culminates with a gala showing on November 13th.

The film festival is in its second year and is run by Gustavo Guardado, Jr., a digital arts instructor at Heritage High School in Brentwood, California. The Film Festival serves to promote student films, and this year has a special category for films illustrating the benefits of a full service library in the Brentwood community.

The festival is open to current high school and undergraduate college students who are enrolled in video or film programs. Entered films must be produced entirely by students and created within one year of the festival deadline. Teachers, mentors or professionals may have advised on the film project.

Last year’s winner, Jonathan Woo of Brentwood, is still working on a possible entry for this year. His 2014 submission, “Crayon Words,” told the story of an over-worked Mother and a Son who wants to spend more time with her. The Son writes a letter to her mean boss, using crayons, of course, and attempts to persuade him to let her have time off to spend with him.

The ten-minute movie was filmed entirely by Woo with acting and production participation of his family and girlfriend, using locations in San Francisco and Martinez. Woo is now a second-year student at Diablo Valley College studying Film and Broadcast Communications Arts. He hopes to continue his studies after he receives his Associate of Arts degree. He graduated from Heritage High School.

The film festival categories include 30-second PSA and Spec Commercials, 2-10 minute Short Films and Skits. The Best-of-Show Winner and Best-Brentwood-Library Short award winners will receive GoPro Cameras as prizes.

The Brentwood Library category is being underwritten by the Brentwood Library Foundation (BLF) as a way to promote the public benefits of libraries in general and at the same time obtain video content that may be used on the BLF website and Facebook page.
