At approximately 7:00 pm Wednesday, Brentwood Police officers responded to a report of an aggressive dog running loose in the area of Greenyard Ct. and Century Oaks Dr.

While in route to the call, police received a second call reporting that the pittbull-boxer mix dog came at and he was forced to stab the dog with a pocket knife—the dog did not bite the reporting person. This resulted in a minor wound to the dog.

Another neighbor threw an item at the dog to distract him to allow the person time to get to safety.

When officers arrived, they observed the dog running towards a female who did not know the dog was on the loose and had just come onto her porch. The officer honked his horn and told her to get back in her house.

According to Brentwood Police Chief Mark Evenson, the officer jumped out of his car and tried to tase the dog but missed. The officer then broadcasted that the dog was extremely aggressive and was posing a significant threat to the surrounding neighbors, and that he was going to shoot him if he had the opportunity to safely do so.

Animal Control had been summonsed, but had yet to arrive on-scene.

Additional officers were summoned; however, officer on scene had significant and immediate concern for the neighbor’s safety.

“The dog ran after Officer Beardsley, however he was unable to safely fire a round in the neighborhood. Beardsley and Nance showed restraint and held their fire while being able to avoid the charging dog.  A short time later the owners of the dog arrived and were able to secure him in their home,” explained Evenson.

The Pitt Bull/Boxer mix was later taken into custody by Animal Control.

From the picture the dog doesn’t look aggressive. If he is in custody at Animal Control will the owners get him back??

Great Job BPD. Better job would have been to eliminate the aggressive dangerous dog. I hope the owner has realized he may have a second chance and keeps the animal under control.

It’s a shame that BPD even has to respond to a call of this nature, a situation created entirely by folks that feel the need to keep such “loveable” animals. Great job by Brentwood’s finest showing decisive restraint, keeping our residents and themselves safe while seeing the situation resolved.
