Brentwood Police Say PG&E Gas Line Capped and Roadways Now Open

by ECT

At 11:18 am Tuesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to the area of Fairview Ave and Balfour for a report of a gas line being hit by a construction crew.

Upon further investigation, crews located the PG&E gas supply line being hit at Fairview and Central. The fire department stated the gas line break was a 4-inch line accidentally cut by construction crews.

Brentwood Police stated that police and PG&E crews were on scene controlling traffic and attempting to stabilize the situation. Police were encouraging residents to avoid the area until further notice.

Ron Nunn Elementary School is currently inaccessible for pickup and the school has stated students will remain on campus until roadways reopens.

A gas leak at the intersection of Fairview and Central is preventing access to RNS at this time. PG&E is estimating an hour (at this time) until through traffic will be allowed. All students are safe and we are carrying on with our day. We are following district protocol for this situation and are well trained for anything that may come from it. It is business as usual for us. Again, everyone is happy and safe.

1:50 pm Update
Engine 52 reporting PG&E has the gas leak secured on Fairview in Brentwood (1:50pm). We are being told the roadway will still be shut down for a while.

2:20 pm Update
Brentwood Police announced that the PG&E gas line has been capped and roadways were open.
