Updated: Brentwood Police Pursuit Results in Crash, Arrest of Suspect in Oakley

Just after 11:00 am Monday, a police pursuit out of the City of Brentwood entered into the City of Oakley which resulted in a vehicle crash and an arrest.

The crash occurred at 11:08 am at Main Street and O’Hara Ave in Oakley in the construction zone which left a vehicle on its side. Brentwood police were following the suspect who was in a stolen vehicle and said he was high on methamphetamine’s.

After flipping the vehicle, the suspect was taken into custody and ground transported by AMR to a local hospital due to his injuries.

The crash shut down eastbound traffic on Main Street.

Vehicle Pursuit/Collision

On September 18, 2017, at 1103 hours, officers were alerted via their in-car computers of a stolen vehicle in the area of O’Hara Avenue at Grant Street. They located the vehicle and followed it a short distance as it traveled northbound on O’Hara Avenue.

As the vehicle passed Lone Tree Way, the officers attempted a traffic enforcement stop and the driver fled. A pursuit of the vehicle was initiated based on the vehicle being reported stolen. The pursuit covered a short distance and was terminated as the vehicle traveled onto eastbound Main Street in the city of Oakley. Shortly after the stolen vehicle turned onto Main Street it collided with a guy-wire and rolled onto its side. Officers who had been pursuing the vehicle were made aware of the collision and responded, taking the driver into custody.

The driver was identified as Jorge Lara, a 21 year old Hispanic male from Brentwood. Lara was treated for minor injuries and released. He was then booked into Martinez Detention Facility. Lara is being charged with the vehicle theft, failure to yield to the officers, a probation violation and an outstanding warrant.

No officers or citizens were injured as a result of this incident.

With the way downtown Oakley designed as a gauntlet squeezed in road, it could have been death for many. Thankfully no deaths. Maybe the state can hurry with those special tweeker zone places just for druggies to shoot up, hang, and get high. A place to these types to grow.
