Brentwood Police Offer Auto Burglary Prevention Tips for Holiday Season

by ECT

With the holiday’s season upon us, Brentwood PD would like to remind you of the following words of wisdom when you do your holiday shopping.

  • Don’t be easy prey! Remove it or lose it!
  • Don’t leave valuables in plain view
  • Don’t leave your doors unlocked or windows down
  • NEVER leave your keys in the car
  • Don’t move items to your trunk while in the viewing of others!

You can help prevent your vehicle from being burglarized – which makes up over 36% of all calls that are reported to the police on a national level! Don’t fall victim to such a preventable crime! If you see something, say something, be aware of your surroundings, and if you leave an article in the view of others, know that it could very well be stolen as auto burglaries are most often a crime of opportunity.

Editors Notes:

Here is a message from the City of Hercules:

HERCULES CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE AN INCREASE IN THEFTS FROM PARKED VEHICLES:

In the past 20 days Hercules Police have taken 15 cases of window smash Auto Burglaries, and on case of a theft from an unlocked vehicle. This is in addition to the 26 cases we had in the first 27 days of October. The majority of the cases were window smashes and the property loss was electronics, brief cases, purses, etc. The most recent cases are in various locations throughout the City. The time frame is usually early morning. The common thread to all of these cases is VALUABLES LEFT IN THE VEHICLE. Citizens are strongly advised not to leave valuables visible in their vehicle. If you conceal the items in your trunk, try to do it before you reach the destination where you are going to park the car.

Don’t leave ANYTHING in your vehicle – valuable or not. Don’t leave ANYTHING in your trunk, even if you do it where no one can see. They can break into your vehicle and release your trunk button.
