Brentwood Police Issue Residential Burglary Alert

Brentwood Police Badge

On July 24 between the hours of 8:00 am – 10:00 am, Brentwood officers responded to a residence on Buena Vista Street, where witnesses reportedly saw three suspicious subjects ringing the doorbell.

When no one responded to the doorbell, the subjects entered the backyard of the residence through a side gate. A short time later, the subjects left the yard and were seen entering a late 2000 model Chevrolet Impala, silver in color, with a possible partial license plate of 7G_ _ _66. There was no forced entry into the residence and no evidence of theft from the yard. The subjects were described as three black males in their late teens to early twenties.

A short time later, officers responded to the report of a residential burglary at a nearby home on Dawnview Drive. In this incident, the burglars entered the home after smashing the rear sliding glass door while the homeowner was away.

It is not uncommon for residential burglars to knock on doors and ring doorbells in an attempt to determine if the homeowner(s) are home. In many cases, if someone answers the door, the subjects will typically provide an alleged reason for being there (i.e. looking for someone) and then be on their way. If there is no answer at the door, it is common for the suspects to walk the perimeter of the home looking for an open door or window, or to force entry.

Brentwood residents are encouraged to be mindful of routine home security measures, such as ensuring that all doors and windows are locked when leaving the home. If a vehicle matching the description of the one listed above is seen in your neighborhood, or any other suspicious vehicles, subjects, or conduct is observed, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.

Glad to see this reported here — people are so reluctant to believe that burglars will smash glass to get in. There’s still some idea that it’s too noisy and would attract attention, or that the possibility of injuring themselves will keep them from going to such lengths. Not true! It certainly does happen and is a real risk. Sliding glass doors are definitely areas to be examined if you’re thinking of reinforcing your home. Over in Antioch, we’re also seeing that attacking home a/c units for copper and vehicles for catalytic converters is no far-fetched fantasy. Just because it doesn’t happen at every home every day doesn’t mean that it’s a truly rare occurrence.
