Brentwood Police Chief Provides Update on Heritage High Incidents

by ECT

Brentwood Police Chief Mark Evenson provided a brief update regarding Brentwood Police activity on the Heritage High School Campus this Wednesday afternoon.

In an email, he says student movement was restricted, but the school is not in a lock-down.

“We are currently investigating two events at Heritage High School. The first incident involves a male student who made some threats. No one was harmed, and the student’s parents are at the school working with school officials.” said Evenson.

A second incident involves a subject sending a threatening email.

“The second incident involves a threatening email sent to school staff this afternoon. The email was sent by an unknown person. Basically, the email’s author was threatening to harm people if the school did not give him money. Our officers have been on scene since early afternoon, and the email threat does not appear to have any merit at this time,” said Evenson.

He further explained that Brentwood Police Officers have been working with school staff, and they have conducted a joint security sweep of the school and noted there is no suspicious activity or packages.

As a precaution, Brentwood police officers will stay in the area until after school and will monitor the area until all students have left. Police are currently investigating the email to see if we can determine the IP address and identity of the author.

At this time,  it appears the two incidents are not related.

“The Heritage High School staff has done an exceptional job communicating and working with our officers, and Superintendent Volta is on scene and fully briefed on the incidents,” said Evenson.

Update 3:32 pm- Letter from Principal Larry Oshodi

Dear Heritage Parents,

We received an anonymous threat to the school and following procedure, we notified the Brentwood Police Department. It was considered a low-level threat, but in the abundance of caution we activated our Restricted Movement protocol to keep students and staff in place while the police department and our security staff clear the school.

We have since received the all-clear and classes will continue as normal for the remainder of the day.

Sincerely,

Larry Oshodi

Principal

District Superintendent Eric Volta thanked the Brentwood Police, School Administration and the District Technology department who found that there was no threat to our students.
