Brentwood Police Announce Zero Tolerance for Fireworks Violations

by ECT

BRENTWOOD, CA – The City of Brentwood encourages safe, responsible and fun holiday celebrations. Celebrating the Fourth of July for some means firing up the grill, loading up the cooler and waiting for a nightfall filled with the brilliance of red, white and blue explosions. But aside from a permitted event facilitated by a certified pyro technician, fireworks are illegal in Brentwood under California Health and Safety Code section 12677 (It is unlawful for any person to possess dangerous fireworks without holding a valid permit).

The Brentwood Police Department will be taking a zero tolerance approach to fireworks violations. In addition to the illegalities of fireworks possession, this year’s drought has created some additional safety concerns. High weeds and brown lawns are extremely vulnerable to stray embers or sparks caused by fireworks. Please avoid the temptation of putting yourself and your neighbors at risk. Each year nationwide, accidental fires caused by amateur pyrotechnics amount to millions of dollars in damage to homes, displaced families, personal injury and even death.

On July 4th, Brentwood PD will be assigning additional officers to patrol residential neighborhoods and proactively enforce fireworks violations. The City of Brentwood wishes everyone a fun and safe Independence Day weekend.
