At about 4:00 AM this past Thursday morning, Brentwood Police Department officers were investigating a couple of auto clouts (cop talk for theft from an unlocked vehicle) in a particular neighborhood. We had the suspect in custody, and the officers were attempting to locate any additional victims by inspecting the cars in the area.
It was very dismaying to see just how many residents are leaving valuables in their cars, in plain view, and sometimes even with the doors unlocked! On one short street there were numerous cars with purses, laptops, iPads, cameras, and even MONEY lying on the consoles and seats.
One of the ways we keep crime out of Brentwood is by making sure our neighborhoods and parking lots are not lucrative “shopping” areas for the crooks! Please, remove your valuables from your cars (or at least hide them) and lock the doors.
