Home Brentwood Brentwood: Oven Fire Damages Kitchen

Brentwood: Oven Fire Damages Kitchen

by ECT

At 8:20 pm Friday, firefighters responded to a report of an oven fire on the 300 block of Foothill Drive in Brentwood.

Upon arrival, Engine 52 observed an oven fire that was extending up the kitchen cabinets. They upgraded the response to a full structure response.

Firefighters were able to control the fire with the assistance of CONFIRE Engines 81 and 82 of Antioch while limiting the damage to the kitchen area including the oven and microwave.

According to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, the probable cause was the occupant of the home stored combustible material (potholders, plastic items, etc) in the drawer below the microwave. Upon heating the oven to cook, those combustible items ignited causing the fire.

No one was injured during the incident.
