Brentwood Mayor Will Not Enter Supervisor Race, Set to Run for Re-Election

by ECT

With rumors swirling around that Brentwood Mayor Bob Taylor would throw his name in the hat to run for County Supervisor, Taylor finally killed the rumor.

Mayor Taylor confirmed Saturday via phone call that he would not be running for County Supervisor to replace Supervisor Mary Piepho after she retires. Instead, he highlighted his love for Bentwood and hopes to continue serving Brentwood as Mayor.

Taylor highlighted that he wanted to continue working on providing police the tools they need to further reduce crime and improve transportation within the city.

He stated he would be releasing a formal announcement in the future with more details.

Mayor Taylor was first elected Mayor in 2006 after being elected to the City Council in 2004. Prior to serving on the council, he served on the Liberty Union High School District Board of Trustees.

The race to win Supervisor Mary Piepho’s seat is getting crowded with five candidates announcing their intention to run: Diane Burgis, Wade Harper, Doug Hardcastle, Odessa LeFrancois and Monica Wilson.

For a candidate to be placed on the ballot, they have between February 16 – March 11, 2016 to file their paperwork.

Was hoping he would run. He is better than anyone in the field. Maybe someone else can run I can get behind. Brentwood is doing things right, maybe one of the other council members will enter so we can get behind them.

Don’t wish for a field that is too diluted or no one will win and you will get Harper. The more that run simply split the vote and the citizens lose. We need some to drop out now actually.

I will never vote for Taylor again. Before the last election he promised the children of Brentwood Elementary that if he was re elected he would build a park on the vacant land across from their school (Balfour and Griffith). Big lie. Never took any action to make that promise a reality. Unfortunately I voted for him based on that promise. Both my children and I learned a big lesson in politics.

Tim Thomas, Brentwood is doing good but none of that is due to Bob Taylor. It’s 80 percent city manager and 20 percent city council. Their is very little leadership emanating out of this current city council. Some could argue it’s one of the worst ever and merely operating on cruise control.

Read Nancy’s comments if you need an example. Most people I know say the same thing. They will never vote for Taylor again.

Julio, no matter how many enter the race. Harper won’t come close. Just look at the demographics of the district. No city in the district would back Harper, not even Antioch. Talk is cheap, let’s wait and see who actually files for the seat. I think Dianne Burgis has the best chance having recently won a regional election on the east bay regional park district.

B-Wood. The only reason Harper is in there today is because three people ran for mayor and two split the vote leaving Harper to walk home free to do major damage to Antioch.. He could possibly run into this again only Wilson is there to stop him. Go Burgis.

Julio, agreed! Harper can only win if others make it easy. He cannot carry any election on his own. I predict his political future will be cut short. Antioch residents have finally had enough of him and Burgis is a much stronger candidate than he is. It will be very interesting to watch this all play out. I think several of the candidates that have “announced” they will run will not. It takes some money to get started and a huge investment of time and energy. Its one thing to say you are going to run, its another to actually do it.
So far the only people I see that are really going forward are Hardcastle and Burgis. I don’t think Hardcastle has what it takes so I expect to see Dianne Burgis quickly push into the lead. She could even take it in the primary, especially if another Republican jumps in the race and splits Hardcastle’s votes. I think filing opens soon. Should be interesting to see who our next Supervisor will be as long as it is NOT Wade Harper or Monica Wilson.
