Brentwood Library Moving to a New Temporary Home

by ECT

The Brentwood Library will close for two weeks to move to a new temporary home in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Community Center at 35 Oak Street.

The closure will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 and continue through Sunday, November 6. The library will reopen in the temporary space on Monday, November 7 and remain there for approximately 18-20 months while the current space is transformed into a brand new, modern 20,000 square foot library.

The book drop at 104 Oak Street will remain open during the closure, but holds will not be available for pickup during the 14 day period. Patrons needing library services during the closure can visit the Oakley or Antioch libraries.

The temporary library outlet will be open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 12 to 8 p.m. The outlet will be closed on the weekends.

The temporary space will include seven public computers, an early literacy station and small collections of new releases, Lucky Day books, DVDs, books on CD and children’s books. The outlet will offer some programming like the beading club, book club and homework help. Storytime will begin at the temporary location in January.

“The temporary library will allow us to continue to provide service to Brentwood residents while the new library is under construction,” said County Librarian Melinda Cervantes. “I think library customers will enjoy the large, modern space when it is complete.”

The new 20,000 square foot library will include 33 public computers, space for 80,000 items in the collection, a community room for larger programs, a conference room, group study rooms, outdoor seating in a landscaped courtyard and a café.
