Brentwood: Lane Closures Scheduled at Balfour Road and Highway 4

by ECT

The Contra Costa County Transportation Authority announced that Eastbound lanes of Highway 4 south of Balfour Road will be closed during the evening of Friday, December 1 at 11:00 pm through Saturday, December 2 at 6:00 am.

Detour signs will be in place to help motorists get around the closure. Please see the detour map for more information.

Construction crews will place concrete barriers for workers’ safety. Please drive slowly to protect highway construction workers. California Highway Patrol officers will be on site to enforce the closure.

The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) recently began construction of the new Balfour Road Interchange at Highway 4. The Balfour Road and Highway 4 intersection is currently signalized, resulting in traffic backups during peak commute times. This project will replace the at-grade intersection with a new interchange to reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Check out the video below to see how the new interchange will look and function.

This is the final phase of traffic flow improvements on Highway 4. The series of improvement projects on Highway 4 were developed cooperatively among the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, and the cities of Brentwood, Antioch, and Oakley.
