Brentwood: Firefighters Limit Residential Fire to Garage Area

Oleander fire

At 4:57 am, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a residential structure fire in Brentwood on Oleander Street.

Fire crews arrived to smoke showing from the front of the house inside the garage. Crews quickly worked to set up a water flow and secure the scene. Once it was safe, crews forced entry into the garage which damaged a side door and the garage door.

Inside the garage, it appears as if a sprinkler system assisted the district in limiting the fire to the garage.

According to the District, damage was estimated at $2,500 with no injuries to residents or firefighters. The District also stated the fire was accidental with debris from grinding chisels from the night before which started garage contents on fire.

Crews were on scene for 2-hours and 34-minutes. No one was home at the time the fire started.

Good thing the sprinklers were there! But my question is, who grinds chisels at almost 5am in the morning? His neighbors must love him!

Natedoggy,

No one said the guy was grinding at 5 a.m. 5 a.m. Was when the department responded to a possible fire that was started from actions the night before.

“The District also stated the fire was accidental with debris from grinding chisels from the night before which started garage contents on fire.”

I have a hard time swallowing that. Its very cold now and for something to smoulder like that for hours is hard to believe.
