Brentwood: Firefighters Limit Fire to Garage, $25k in Damages

At 8:56pm Friday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a garage fire in the 600 block of Devonshire Loop in Brentwood within the Apple Hill neighborhood.

Per radio traffic, dispatch received a call of a fire in a garage with the possibility of explosions.

Battalion 5 arrived on scene to see no fire, but per Police they stated they had heard “popping” sounds from the garage area which was coming from the electrical service that was shooting sparks.

Engine 52 (Brentwood) arrive on scene and found the garage was charged with smoke down to the floor while Engine 88 (Antioch) cut down the garage door. Engine 93 (Oakley) Engine 82 (Antioch) and Engine 59 (Discovery Bay) also responded.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the garage area but were waiting on PG&E to cut the power to put the fire out.

The fire caused smoke damage throughout the interior of the residence and caused $25,000 in damages. The probable cause is suspicious electrical service in the garage.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded by providing two engines as part of the aid agreement.
