Brentwood: Firefighter Injured, Police Officer Treated During Structure Fire

At roughly 3:28 pm Saturday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 20 block of Sycamore Ave in Brentwood.

An East Contra Costa Firefighter suffered heat exhaustion while fighting the blaze and was treated by AMR and taken away by ambulance to a local hospital. He is expected to recover and be released Saturday evening.

Brentwood-Fire-IMG_4888Shortly after the firefighter was taken away by ambulance, a Brentwood Police officer was treated on scene, but was determined to be okay.

While fire crews were on scene, temperatures reached 102 degrees as they battled flames coming out of a home along with power lines down and ammunition sounding off.

Update:

The firefighter who was injured has since been released from the hospital and is home recovering. Fire crews remained on scene for a period of 8-hours which left the fire distirct uncovered with no fire engines to respond.
