Brentwood City Manager, City Attorney Get 3.5% Raise

by ECT

On Tuesday night, the Brentwood City Council approved a 3.5% raise for City Manager Gus Vina in a 5-0 vote.

The move came after an October 23, 2018 annual performance evaluation for the City Manager and City Attorney. The 3.5% salary adjustment is consistent with the increase non-sworn Department Directors received July 1, 2018.

Vina, who was hired in February of 2015, will now make $259,862.99. Meanwhile, Damien Brower will make $254,012.83.

The fiscal impact of the salary adjustments for the City Manager and the City Attorney is $20,344 for FY 2018/19. The additional costs will require a budget amendment for FY 2018/19.

Editors Comment:
No Salary Survey was included in the staff report comparing Vina’s salary to other city managers, however, here is what Antioch had reported as their salary survey back in June.

  • $281,507 – Richmond
  • $274,104 – Concord
  • $259,862 – Brentwood (Updated to include raise approved Tuesday)
  • $257,760 – Pittsburg
  • $254,000 – Walnut Creek
  • $239,460 – Oakley
  • $230,000 – Antioch

With over $1 million dollars in new salaries approved last month and increases like this yesterday, the City of Brentwood continues to show it’s citizens that there is this “money tree” we can keep pulling from with no future consequenses to the financial health of the City. They will just continue to build more homes and erode the quality of life all of us cherish to keep replenishing that tree.

I have decided that I will not sit quietly anymore while I watch those who were elected to represent us, spend our money unwisely without any regard for our future financial stability.

This is ABSOLUTE INSANITY! These people are earning more than a PhD in physics or an MD who SAVES PEOPLES’ LIVES earns! These city THIEVES don’t have any diagnostic equipment to buy or rent medical suites! None of those cities should be paying such high salaries! This is way off the mark! The public should not put up with that!

Gus and Damien are worth every penny if not more. People who don’t understand the real world have no idea what type of talent you need to run a city the right way. I applaud the Council for recognizing both of them and compensating them appropriately. Smart people recognize why talented people need to be appropriately compensated. There will always be haters who are just out of touch with reality. The City of Brentwood is one of the most well run City’s in the State of California. That doesn’t happen by accident. Bravo Council on a great decision!

Gus worth every penny is comical. He failed to bring Great Wolf Resort. Perhaps someone should do an audit on all the staff time he wasted on that project. He failed to fund the fire district and proposed a silly utility tax and further confused residents of East County. That enough should have got him fired. The library while it may look nice, came in over budget. Perhaps ECT should get the final number. Today, Brentwood probably has its worst Police Department in the city history and crime is higher than its ever been. No, he is not worth every penny. Gus has not set up the city for its future, he has set them up to make very difficult decisions when the money runs dry. Also, lets not forget the $20 million lawsuit for the RDA the city fought and lost.

Lol! You are an absolute joke. You wont even use your own name. The only thing that is comical is your reply. You are so out of touch with reality that I’m assuming you are an unemployed, unskilled laborer with too much time on your hands. Let me guess. You are angry because you make minimum wage and never lived up to your parent’s expectations. You just can’t stand to see other people who are more successful than you are. Please write more! I’m sure you will provide insightful comments to embarrass yourself even more. Let me guess. You don’t even live in Brentwood! Hey, maybe you can get plugged into some community resources to get you some help with the anger management problem. I guess if I were you, I’d be angry at life too. 🙂 Hang in there. I’m sure life will get better for you at some point.

BULL! Are these city “managers” are actually PRODUCING something? No! All they do is push papers around! This is shameful! Getting more than a quarter of a million dollars to do that? Every city on that list should be ashamed of itself! How much are their police officers earning? At least they DO SOMETHING! They are taking their lives in their hands going out to protect people! These city “managers” just sit on their fat behinds while the workers drink coffee and stand around. These city “managers” have a great racket going! And then, when they retire, they get a bundle on top of everything else! SHAME! SHAME!
