At 3:21 pm Monday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a head-on crash causing one vehicle to land on its roof at Chestnut Street at Diablo Lane in Brentwood.
The incident shut down the roadway as Battalion Chief 5 was first on scene and immediately requested a medical helicopter and additional units to respond as three patients were suffering from major injuries and two patients were trapped in a vehicle.
Two medical helicopters were requested to the scene, however, one was later cancelled by Battalion 5.
Ultimately, one patient was deceased on scene while another patient was transported to Liberty High School where a medical helicopter transported them to a local hospital. A third patient was ground transported.
According to preliminary information, it appears one vehicle was attempting to pass another as a driver was attempting to turn into a driveway. No further information was made available on scene.
