The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) recently began construction of the new Balfour Road Interchange at Highway 4. The Balfour Road and Highway 4 intersection is currently signalized, resulting in traffic backups during peak commute times. This project will replace the at-grade intersection with a new interchange to reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Check out the video below video below to see how the new interchange will look and function.

This is the final phase of traffic flow improvements on Highway 4. The series of improvement projects on Highway 4 were developed cooperatively among the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, and the cities of Brentwood, Antioch, and Oakley.

What is happening at Balfour and Byron Hwy? The new road construction seems all screwed up. The bike lane narrows to the dirt while the other side is two car widths. The stop sign is set with sand bags and everyone has left.

Relax American, relax, they’re building that race track from Brentwood to discovery bay. Later better than sooner. Just wait and see.

Ok , I’m relaxed. Nope, what about the stop light at Byron Highway at Camino Diablo ? It never got turned on and the project appears abandoned. Bummer for Byron.
