Brentwood: Attic Fire Causes $50k in Damages

by ECT

At 9:25 pm Saturday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District received a report of a residential structure fire on Caddie Ct in Brentwood.

This was the second residential fire to be reported in a 10-minute time period. With units already committed to a fire in Oakley on Jane Lane, Engines 94 (Knightsen) and Engine 59 (Discovery Bay) were diverted to Caddie Ct from Oakley while Engines 82 and 81 (Antioch) and 1676 (Clayton) were also dispatched to the call. Engine 52 eventually was released from Oakley and sent to this incident.

Engine 94 arrived to see smoke and flames coming from the roof and confirmed this was an attic fire. Crews quickly worked to contain the fire and limited damage to the attic area, master bedroom and hallway.

According to Chief Henderson, the probable cause of the fire was electrical and caused roughly $50k in damages.

Editors notes:

Station 52, which is a quarter-mile away, would have been first on scene to this fire. Instead, they were in Oakley on the first fire. Engine 94 of Knightsen was first on scene.

With fire crews working the two fires at the same time, three medical calls came in with no fire resources available.

  1. 9:59 pm: Anjou Parkway (Brentwood) Engine 81 of Antioch responded
  2. 11:35 pm: Riverview Pl (Bethel Island) – Engine 1676 of Calfire (Clayton) responded
  3. 11:37 pm: E. Country Club (Brentwood) – Engine 52 dispatched off the fire call to respond
