Brentwood Announces New Convert for Cash Water Conservation Rebate Program

by ECT

BRENTWOOD, CA – City of Brentwood officials formally unveiled the City’s new CONVERT FOR CASH Water Conservation Rebate Program today, the latest in a series of measures taken by the City to help combat the record drought.

The rebate program will offer home and business owners who are City of Brentwood utility customers rebates for making water-saving upgrades and conversions.

Single-family residential properties and multi-family residential properties with 4 units or less will
be eligible for up to $1,000 in rebates. Commercial properties and multi-family residential properties with 5 or more units will be eligible for up to $5,000 in rebates.

The CONVERT FOR CASH rebate program is the latest move from Brentwood officials aimed at helping residents and business owners cut water use by 35%, or stay within the Citywide 2013 averages, as mandated by the state. To help people reduce water use, the City launched a major water conservation awareness campaign over the last several weeks, since declaring a water shortage emergency in May. The rebate program is the latest component of the campaign to be unveiled.

“The CONVERT FOR CASH rebate program includes rebates directed at the biggest water users, indoors and outdoors,” said Mayor Bob Taylor. “Our new rebate program offers something to help nearly every homeowner or business find a way to reduce their water use.

Whether you have an older home that needs updating, or a newer property that needs to convert to a less-thirsty lifestyle, there is a rebate that can help,” pointed out Taylor. The Mayor encouraged the people of Brentwood to turn the drought into a golden opportunity to become more water-wise, and help ensure a more sustainable future.

The CONVERT FOR CASH Water Conservation Rebate Program offers several different ways for customers to save water, and is particularly focused on landscape conversion, irrigation upgrades and water-efficient appliance replacement. The following rebates are included in the rebate program:

Lose Your Lawn – remove irrigated lawn areas and replace with non-thirsty alternativeClothes Washer Replacement – get a
new high efficiency mode
Pools – remove your pool or get a coverToilet Replacement – replace old toilets
with low water volume models
Drip Irrigation – convert overhead
sprinklers to drip
Separate Indoor & Outdoor Meters
individually metering outdoor water use
provides for better water management
Irrigation Controller – upgrade to a selfadjusting “Smart” system controllerConvert to Non-Potable Irrigation
convert outdoor areas currently using
potable water and save on your bill

A customer may be eligible for multiple rebates. For instance, Lose Your Lawn and Drip Irrigation rebates can be applied for together. They are especially encouraged, since lawns use at least twice as much water as sustainable landscape, noted Debra Galey, the City of Brentwood’s Management Analyst, who is overseeing the funding and implementation of the rebate program.

Customers can also apply for a combination of indoor and outdoor rebates, as long as the amount doesn’t exceed the $1,000 or $5,000 limits. Retroactive conversions may be eligible for rebates, so long as the areas that were converted and the related products used can be verified on-site and receipts are available.
