Brentwood Announces Commission/Committee Vacancies

BRENTWOOD, CA – The City of Brentwood is accepting applications from interested citizens for the following Commissions and Boards. Applicants must reside within the city limits.

Planning Commission:
Applicants for this Commission must reside within the incorporated city limits. This five-member commission meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The Commission recommends plans for the regulation of future growth, development and design of the city, and carries out the provisions of the General Plan and the Zoning Ordinance. One vacancy due to resignation with a term expiration of 12/31/14 and two vacancies due to term expirations on 12/31/14. Application deadline: Application deadline: October 24, 2014.

Arts Commission:
The Arts Commission is an advisory commission to the City Council made up of five (5) Brentwood citizens. Applicants for this Commission must reside within the city limits. This Commission meets on the third Wednesday of each month. Arts Commissioners make recommendations on arts. Commissioners should be knowledgeable about and represent a cross section and distribution of membership among the major art and cultural fields which may include one or more of the following art disciplines: architectural arts, dance, art education, fiber arts, literature, music, painting, performing arts, photography, ceramics, sculpture, murals, visual, functional art, and crafts. Two vacancies due to term expirations on 12/31/14. Application deadline: Friday, October 24, 2014.

East Contra Costa Fire Protection Districts Board of Directors:
The East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was established in 2002 with the consolidation of the Bethel Island, East Diablo, and Oakley-Knightsen Fire Protection Districts. The District serves the cities of Oakley and Brentwood as well as the unincorporated areas of east Contra Costa County, including Bethel Island, Byron, Discovery Bay and Knightsen. Pursuant to the Fire Protection District Law of 1987, the District operates as an independent public agency and the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors initially served as the District’s governing board. In late 2009, the cities of Brentwood and Oakley, the County and ECCFPD consented to local governance of the District. The Board of Directors includes nine members: four from Brentwood, three from Oakley and two from the unincorporated County area, each residing within the District. The ECCFPD Board meets the first Monday of each month in the evening. There is no compensation provided for Board Members. One Citizen vacancy due to term expiration. Park and Recreation Commission:
The Park and Recreation Commission is an advisory commission to the City Council made up of five (5) Brentwood citizens. Applicants for this Commission must reside within the City limits. This Commission meets on the fourth Thursday of each month. The Commission makes recommendations on park and recreation facility designs, use of City parks and recreation facilities, and provides feedback and recommendations in regard to program and facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Three vacancies; one vacancy due to resignation with a term expiration of 12/31/14; one vacancy due to a resignation with a term expiration of 12/31/16; one vacancy due to term expiration on 12/31/14. Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee: The Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee (BANC) is an advisory committee made up of residents from the city’s 53 neighborhoods. The committee serves on special task forces to study city issues and to work on projects such as the committees’ “Home of the Month” program, National Night Out, and assists with the annual Christmas tree lighting. Meetings take place at 6:00 pm on the second Wednesday of each month in the Brentwood Community Center Meeting Room. BANC continually accepts applications for new members and requires applicants to observe a BANC meeting before consideration for appointment. Ongoing
