At 2:17 am Sunday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a solo vehicle crash on Byron Highway off Brentwood Blvd in unincorporated Brentwood.
Upon arrival, Engine 59 located the crash and stated one patient was deceased.

DUI Driver crashes & kills his passenger in Brentwood
Early this morning at about 2:17am, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a vehicle into a traffic signal pole at Byron Highway and Brentwood Blvd. Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, tragically the passenger was killed and the male driver had sustained minor injuries. The vehicle damage from striking the pole was massive and the vehicle was split in half.
In the initial investigation, it appears that the male driver, 25yr old from Brentwood, was driving his 2007 Dodge Magnum at a high rate of speed and drove off the roadway and crashed directly into the traffic signal pole at the intersection of Byron Highway and Brentwood Blvd. The crash split the Dodge in half. His passenger, unidentified adult male, was ejected and died on scene. The driver was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. He was also investigated for DUI and subsequently arrested for 2 FELONY DUI charges and VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER for killing his passenger. Upon his release from the hospital, he was booked into the Martinez County detention facility this morning.

Probably leaving the Aloha Club. They have no regards to the safety of people. I’ve seen people so intoxicated that they’re barely able to stand.
I knew the victim ( passenger) who worked for me a few years ago. So sad. From what he told me he took care of his little brother. This is a shock to my staff as well.
