Bonilla Responds to UC President Napolitano’s Testimony

SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) released a statement in response to the University of California President, Janet Napolitano’s claim that she would impose a cap on in-state admissions if the Governor’s plan of increasing state funding does not exceed 4 percent.

“Our students’ higher education should never be held hostage in budget negotiations,” said Assemblywoman Bonilla.  “The UC President’s plan is a clear threat to future students who wish to attend our public University system.  Students in our state should always be the UC’s number one priority and should not be replaced by out-of-state students like the president’s plan suggests.”

“I continue to support additional funding for both the UC and CSU systems with accountability measures, however reject the high stakes brinkmanship of President Napolitano.”

Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) was elected in November 2010 and represents California’s 14th Assembly District, which includes Contra Costa County and Solano County.
