Antioch’s Black History Month Exhibit is now open for the month of February after an artist reception was held Saturday.
The exhibit was created by Rua’h Community Outreach Ministries and Parent Providers Partnering for the Education of Young Children in 2009 with a desire to share the cultural history and struggles of African Americans with the children and parents attending the Rites of Passage Life Skills Training Academy being held at the Rivertown Kid’s Club in Antioch.
The exhibit continued to grow and the location for the past two years is the Nick Rodriguez Community Center, located at 213 F Street, in downtown Antioch.
Antioch Mayor Wade Harper welcomed the community to the exhibit and thanked the community for showing support.
“This is so special and all the items and artifacts we have are so special,” said Harper. “The City of Antioch will be giving a proclamation and keys to the city on Tuesday at the City Council Meeting to Thomas Gains who was the first African American man who lived in Antioch”.
Harper said Antioch was going to make February 9 Thomas Gains Day.
The 2016 exhibit showcases a timeline of African American history from Africa to the present featuring historical events, creative art, artifacts, and literature that reflect the African American experience in America, to promote dignity and pride in the African American community and provide cross cultural education for the larger community.
The exhibit hours are February 9th – 19th from 12-5 PM (Tuesdays – Fridays) and Saturday February 13th from 12-5 PM. The final date of the exhibit is Saturday, February 20th from 12-4 PM.
The organizers are offering students an opportunity to earn community service hours and teachers to send their students to the exhibit for extra credit. For more information contact Dr. Carrie Frazier at (925) 787-4827.

Sad fact that the presence of a certain element of African Americans in Antioch has turned the community into the most dangerous city in east county.
There will be those who vehemently disagree but the statistics of violent crime perpetrated specifically by black men is undisputed.
Like it or not, the influx of low income blacks from Oakland, Richmond, and SF has turned many neighborhoods into war zones of criminal activity where many law-abiding citizens are afraid to leave their homes, day or night! Of course liberals and progressives, and those who suffer from “white guilt” will argue and deny these truths but the evidence is all around you!
If you believe this statement to be false, request a copy from APD of the breakdown of arrests and crimes reported according to race and come to your own conclusion.

I was thinking more of a multi-cultural exhibit.
Although individuals of all groups commit crimes, no other racial demographic has devastated and negatively impacted the Quality of Life in Antioch like the black community. Sad but true!
The white race is no doubt the “racial demographic” that has “devastated and negatively impacted the quality of life” on the entire planet, regardless of these local statistics you are addressing. It’s no doubt that whites have been the dominating race throughout history, having control of global commerce, military power, etc, resulting in genocides, racial exterminations, proxy-wars, and the current growing military state. This is undeniable. It is the whites that have spread their empire from pole to pole, instilling their way of life into the hearts and minds of all earth’s citizens; a culture of hegemonic intolerance of all who don’t conform to the conservative/white/Christian norm. The white dominance of earth is quickly coming to end, and it’s no wonder that non-white gatherings such as this put some like RJB’s Nixon-brain-clone on edge.
So much “stuff” spewing from your mouth I don’t know whether to hand you a breath mint or toilet paper.
To all these morons who place this certain group of people on a pedestal. Answer me this simple question…

GW, what would be the ultimate reason for members of one race to commit crimes more on average than members of other races? Are you implying that there are genetic differences between races to such a degree that some are more inclined toward violent crime than others? If not genetic, then what is the cause?
I believe our discussion is specific to Antioch and doesn’t implicate a world view.
Gw and rjb, calm the hell down you cousin lovin hillbillies. This exhibit isn’t honoring criminals for crying out loud. What happens in Antioch is an isolated segment of current events, not a synopsis of the entire history of African Americans. The world now is so crazy due to what WHITE men do in suits inside government buildings. Does that speak for you all? Of course not. Take off your white hoods already and admit youre just mad about daddy spanking you so much 🙂
You are quite presumptuous to believe that I am a white male, which I am not.
History and every day actions have shown that the BIGGEST threat to the black community is black community itself. Black on black crime kills more black men, women, and children than any other demographic on the planet. Chicago, Oakland, Detroit and other large cities are prime examples of the genocide that is occuring in our nation. Black men making babies and walking away as though they don’t exist is the primary reason young black men turn to gangs, drugs, and street violence to replace the absence of a loving father in the home. This problem effects no other community more than the black community given the staggering numbers of black men currently serving prison sentences.
Those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat the same mistakes. This is why the black community continues to be left behind in social-economic advancement

I am African American. Most people who have been reading my posts are aware of this fact. Furthermore, I have lived with and experienced various cultures throughout the world. Yes, AA people are violent, jealous, and downright selfish.
I moved out of the slums to avoid ghetto violence, yet it has followed me to Antioch like a cancer.

For those of you who are capable of engaging in meaningful, respectful dialogue;
The vast majority of individuals in the black community believe electing Barack Obama as our nations first POTUS would substantially improve their economic standing and quality of life so they voted for him in staggering numbers. Amost eight years later there are more blacks on welfare, unemployed, and living below the poverty than any time in history! These folks didn’t vote for Obama because they believed he would was the best presidential candidate, they voted for him for one simple reason, because he is black. Their ignorance led them to believe he would put their self interest above all other Americans.
Since this is black history month I would suggest that individuals research the political process upon which our nation is governed. You will quickly discover that the Democratic Party was created by the Klu Klux Klan and was used to deny blacks access to a good education; was a catalyst to deny blacks & women the right to vote; and Democrats to this day continue to use there philosophy of handouts and dependence on the federal government to keeps blacks in their place and under their political thumb.
If you go to the Antioch Black History Exhibit, look for presentations that acknowledge the contributions that white civil rights heroes (and there many who were murdered for their belief of equality) made for the cause of helping the black community. My guess is the sacrifice of our white brothers & sisters will largely ignored.
