Bethel Island: Firefighters Respond to 2-Alarm Vegetation Fire

At 3:21 pm Friday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District were dispatched to a 2-alarm fire in the 6600 block of Piper Road on Bethel Island.

While responding, both Sheriffs Helicopter and Engine 53 reported a large column of black smoke.

By 3:31 pm, the Sheriffs Helicopter stated there was 1/4 acre vegetation fire along with at least 3 vehicles on fire. Engine 53 advised units would be blocked by a train on E. Cypress Road in Oakley and advised to take an alternate road.

By 3:36 pm, Engine 53 was on scene and requested they could cancel the second alarm due to natural barriers at the scene and could handle with 3-units plus air support.

By 3:44 pm, BC5 was on scene and requested all traffic be blocked on Piper Road by CHP or Contra Costa County Sheriff.

By 4:45, BC5 reporting the fire was extinguished and mop up complete. Firefighters were turning over the scene to the resident.
