Bay Point: Fatal Incident Shuts Down Eastbound Highway 4

by ECT

At 2:58 pm Saturday, authorities responded to a report of a traffic accident in the center divide with airbags deployed. Upon arrival, one person was located deceased.

A short time later, a “BOLO” went out to local law enforcement on a suspected vehicle in a drive by shooting. The vehicle was described as a small while vehicle with dark tinted windows and paper plates involved in a drive-by shooting.

By 3:10 pm, a SIG Alert was issued as three lanes of eastbound traffic would be blocked off with no estimated timeline of when it would re-open.

By 3:33 pm, a hard closure was put in place on eastbound Highway 4 at San Marcos to divert all traffic off from Highway 4 so authorities could begin collecting evidence.

Update: Highway 4 Homicide Investigation

At approximately 1456 hours, Office of the Sheriff Dispatch received several 911 calls of a shooting that had occurred on Highway 4 Eastbound near Bailey Road. Callers reported that an unknown vehicle apparently shot at another vehicle, which crashed into the center divide.

The driver appeared to be shot. The fire department and an ambulance responded. The driver was later pronounced deceased. He is not being identified at this time.

The investigation forced the closure of Highway 4 eastbound traffic.

The suspect is still outstanding. Anyone with any information on this case is asked to call the Office of the Sheriff at (925) 646-2441.

If you wanted to see multiple examples of road rage, rude behavior, poor driving and bad decisions all you needed to do was be stuck in the traffic jam caused by this incident. There was no end to the examples of selfish behavior exhibited yesterday. If CHP wasn’t so tied up in the investigation they could have made multiple arrests in the parking lot that was highway 4.
I personally witnessed drivers purposely (and rudely) crossing over medians, solid lines and driving on the emergency shoulders, simply to “cut in line” in front of other drivers who had been patiently waiting along with everyone else. It was the California “me first” driver’s attitude at its worst. At one point I saw a man in a white pick up truck throw a bottle at another vehicle for not letting him pass in the emergency lane, (next to an AMR ambulance).
C’mon people, everyone had somewhere to be! Just because you are behind the wheel of a car doesn’t give you anonymity. People like me are more than happy to phone a vehicle license and description into 911/CHP. In case the driver and passenger of the white pick up thought their behavior would go unchecked it wasn’t. Their license and vehicle description was broadcast over a CHP alert. Karma is a …..
