Bay Point: CASE Team Seizes Assault Weapons and Arrests Two Suspects

After an investigation into reports of weapons theft and trafficking, the CASE (Contra Costa County Anti-Violence Support Effort) team served a search warrant on a home on the 800 block of Steffa Street in Bay Point on Tuesday, March 22 at about 4:15 PM.

During the search of the residence, CASE team members located 8 assault rifles, 1 assault shotgun, 1 pistol, 2 shotguns, 6 rifles, 25 high capacity magazines and approximately 1,400 rounds of ammunition.

Two people were arrested at the residence:

  • 54-year-old Richard Mulvaney. He was booked on the following charges: felon in possession of a firearm, possession of an assault rifle, prohibited person in possession of ammunition and probation violation. He is being held without bail.
  • 46-year-old Patricia Rubio. She was booked on the following charges: possession of an assault rife and prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Her bail was set at $200,000 bail.

The CASE Team is a joint effort by the Office of the Sheriff, California Department of Justice, California Highway Patrol, Pittsburg Police Department and Walnut Creek Police Department. CASE was created in November 2011 as a collaborative effort to reduce violent crimes in Contra Costa, especially those related to illegal firearms.
