Bay Point: Canal Road Bridge Set to Reopen on March 28th

by ECT

Bay Point, CA – Contra Costa County Public Works announced that the Canal Road Bridge over the Contra Costa Canal is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, March 28th, with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for Thursday, April 12th at 1:30pm.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the adjacent Pentecostal Church parking lot located at 293 Alves Lane, Bay Point.

Alves Lane/Canal Road at the canal crossing located approximately 0.5 miles west of Bailey Road was closed last September to accommodate construction with a detour to adjacent streets.  The County’s contractor, Granite Rock Company built the new road and bridge facilities during approximately 120 working days between September 2017 and March 2018.

The project included construction of a new concrete bridge, removal of the old bridges including the adjacent pedestrian bridge, and reconstruction of pavement within 200 feet each side of the bridge.  The project also included sidewalks, drainage improvements, pavement striping, and the relocation of water, electric and telephone utilities to accommodate construction. This quality reconstruction project represented the efforts and cooperation of many project partners as well as local, state and federal efforts to expedite this public works project.

Funding from the federal highway bridge program and local road funds, including SB1 enabled Contra Costa County Public Works to complete work on the Canal Bridge.
