BART Says No Regular Service from Pittsburg/Bay Point to North Concord on Monday

by ECT

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) said Sunday that it made the decision to continue running shuttle trains between Pittsburg/Bay Point to North Concord after it tested running regular service over the weekend.

According to BART, over the weekend of April 2-3rd, BART tested regular train service between Pittsburg/Bay Point and North Concord/Martinez. This testing made clear that the system is not ready to return to weekday regular service as some trains experienced propulsion problems while traveling through that stretch of track.

BART says they are in the process of moving the train cars that are most prone to propulsion equipment failure in this stretch of track (the C cars) off of the Pittsburg/Bay Point line and replacing them with cars that have more robust protective systems (the A/B cars).

“Once we have completed this reconfiguration we will do more testing to ensure we can run regular service without experiencing additional propulsion failures on the cars.” said Alicia Trost, BART spokewoman.  “We don’t have an exact timetable yet, but we are working quickly to get this done as soon as possible.  We understand our riders at Pittsburg/Bay Point are eager to get service back to normal.”

Wow, not only do we have to transfer in Pittsburg from BART ‘C’ cars to eBART, we find out we have been getting the inferior ‘C’ car instead of the upgraded ‘A’ and ‘B’ cars. What else has BART junked on our end of the rail line? Most likely the electrical power components as well.

Where are the experts? A couple of weeks ago they were supposed to come in to determine where the faults were. C’mom you guys, you got a bunch of bad grounds. Electricity is always looking for ground, and will try to get it anywhere it can…It doesn’t care where it gets there…including through the fragile electronic controls of the BART cars.
