Snag Proof Open
The 14th Annual Snag Proof Frog Tournament has been the marquee event for bass anglers that enjoy summertime topwater fishing. The Snag Proof Open has Always been the Top Dog when it comes to this type of event. While the numbers were down a bit over last years the pay days were huge! Chris Raza and Paul Polkemus had a two day total of 25.1 pounds and took home over $8,100 for their effort.

On the pro side Jason Borofka and Tom Nieto took second $4,985 and Ken Phillips and Jason Cordiale grabbed third. Am’s scored big bucks too with there $100 entry fee. Tao Her and Tim Meets took home top spot $4,100 dollars followed by Blake and Wade Chapman 2nd.

Dan’s Delta Outdoors team member Tom Guercio and Albert LaFrancis grabbed the 3rd spot.

Fishing Report

Isleton Looked again for a few anxious Salmon anglers while there were only a few fishing finally started getting an occasional report of success from Salmon searching anglers Although as the temperatures baked this week and boat traffic was little A few Kings went home for dinner. Silvertron’s scored the salmon. Smallmouth are a great target species this time of year that can help you beat the summer doldrums . Wadda Jigs, and Plastics are good choices here for the hard fighting smallies..

Walnut Grove Bank anglers Pile worms and cut baits prevail. Catfish action is getting the most praise, Few Stripes are in the area as anglers recover still around as temperatures return more seasonable in the Walnut Grove area as the trolling bite is OK mostly small fish. Best area has been Courtland to Walnut Grove.   The Sacramento Turning Basin continues to be decent with stripes caught there by lure tossers. Red Eye Shad and small shad patterned plastics are the top choices here as well.

Discovery Bay  Yuk spraying for weed control made it tough on the Indian Creek side. Crankbaits Strike King XD 6 and 2.5 square bills are scoring bass on the main runway rock walls. Bass pushing the 3 to 4 mark are showing on occasion. Jig bite on points is also decent! Snag proof buzz frogs and kicker frogs getting some explosive strikes. Current and shade are the key.

West Delta Anglers in search of stripers are finding the bite to be tough but still those who stick with it are getting keepers on occasion from both boat and bank. Most of the nice stripers coming soaking Sardines and Anchovies. From as far west as Honker Bay to the Broad Slough and Antioch pier persistent bait dunkers with Mackeral and Sardines are finding fun action. A few Salmon success stories have come on the incoming tide with Mepp’s Flying C’s . Bass Bite stays solid in the Break and surrounding cuts. Punching get’s the bites the key is staying square to your target and setting hard. BK GrassBurners and Whopper Ploppers rocking the bass.
