Assemblymember Frazier Receives 2015 Sisyphus Award from Self-Help Counties Coalition

by ECT

Newport Beach, CA – This week, Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D – Oakley) was honored with the 2015 Sisyphus Award at the Self-Help Counties Coalition’s (SHCC)

“Focus on the Future” Conference in Newport Beach. “I am honored to accept the second annual Sisyphus Award from the SHCC,” said Assemblymember Frazier. “Self-help counties are integral in creating safe and cutting edge transportation solutions for California. As Chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee, I will continue to bolster self-help counties so that they can advance their innovative methods to improve our state’s transportation infrastructure.”

2015-Sisyphus-AwardThe Sisyphus Award is in reference to the mythological Greek King, Sisyphus, who was punished by Zeus for thinking he was more clever than the king of the gods. For eternity, Sisyphus was condemned to push an enormous stone up a hill, only to have it roll back down before he could complete the task. Thus, the award is given to those who work infinitely and tirelessly to improve transportation on all fronts.

Throughout California, 19 county transportation agencies have formed the SHCC. Each county delivers voter-approved (by super-majority) transportation sales tax measures that fund transit, highway, freight, bicycle, pedestrian and other mobility programs.

Together, these counties provide $3 to $4 billion each year into California’s transportation infrastructure, creating jobs, expanding mobility and enhancing local communities and the environment.
