BRENTWOOD, CA – Assemblymember Jim Frazier, D-Oakley, has named Willy’s Bagels & Blends of Brentwood as the 11th Assembly District Small Business of the Year for 2015.

“I’ve done 1300 events in my district in over 2-years and when I am in this area, the prevalent name that comes out in this area is Willy’s Bagels and Blends. Willy’s is the best, Willy’s did that, Willy’s did this and as a former founder of a community foundation that resonates and the impact they have on a ton of people,” said Frazier.

He then went onto to acknowledge all Willy’s Bagels & Blends has accomplished over the last five years.

“Willy’s has made a positive difference in the Brentwood community, and it is my honor to recognize it,” said Frazier. “For the past five years, Willy’s has helped coordinate Street Feast, serving up some 5,000 Thanksgiving dinners. It has assisted more than 10,000 community members through God’s Closet, which distributes jackets, blankets, and toiletries collected by high school students in the area. For a decade, it has supplied Christmas toys and donations to the families of Delta First 5 and the Village Resource Center. This is corporate philanthropy at its finest.”

The business also has given countless teenagers their first opportunities to enter the workforce, and its community room offers local residents a place to conduct meetings and fundraisers for their own charitable works. The business is thriving nearly two decades after the Richardson family opened the doors.

“It just goes to show that when businesses care for their community, the community responds by supporting the business,” Frazier said.

Frazier made Saturday’s announcement during his Cup of Joe with Jim event conducted at Willy’s Heritage-Balfour store, 390 W. Country Club Drive, Brentwood. Willy’s also operates the LibertyDowntown location at 1155 Second St., Suite D, Brentwood,

Scott Richardson highlighted how they want to keep the legacy of their mom going by continuing to give back but noted its the community supporting them which helps give them the drive.

“The goal is to keep the legacy going for my mom. Everything we put into the product is all our heart and soul and everyday we try and get out of this is to make a better day. These kids that are small now bringing their families back into Willy’s Bagels really gives us the drive to keep and continue to give support to the community we live in. For Assemblyman Frazier to recognize us that continues to give us the drive,” said Richardson.

Previously, Willy’s was honored as Brentwood Chamber of Commerce’s 2007 Small Business of the Year.

Willy’s will join other businesses from across the state in being recognized by the California state Assembly in Sacramento later this year.
